Looks like Apple India has got a major boost as Apple chooses Wistron as the first India based supplier of iPhone for 2017. Apple has long talked about going local with its manufacturing. This will help cut costs and perhaps streamline the supply chain for iPhone devices in India as well.

Last year, Apple had also approached the Indian government for certain tax rebates to further facilitate the setting up of its manufacturing plant in Bangalore. However, the government refused the same fearing similar demands to arise from other corporates as well.

Nevertheless, the Indian government has not sealed the door for Apple by indicating that it continues to maintain an open mind towards Apple India growth plans.

Apple India market continues to grow stronger as Apple shortlisted Bangalore for setting up its local manufacturing facility. The facility has been developed in partnership with Wistron.

Wistron's monopoly coming to an end?

As of now, Apple has not decided on adding more OEM partners to its network. However, if the need arises, they will expand their network in India, as reported on Phone Arena. This means that Wistron's monopoly is likely to be short lived.

Meanwhile, in a related news on Mac Rumors, it is learnt that Wistron has expanded its smartphone network in India and China.

Why choose India?

India is an important market. After Apple's sales witnessed a downfall in the Chinese markets, the iPhone maker looks to capitalize from a local presence. However, the expensive Apple phones are likely to meet with a challenge from the Indian markets. While the iPhone sales have gone up in India, Apple iPhone 5s (the relatively cheaper model) has played a pivotal role in shaping this trend.

Additionally, Apple is keen to introduce Apple Stores to the Indian market. However, the Indian laws require such a store to stock at least 30 percent of locally sourced goods. Now that they have a plant in place, Apple India is likely to roll out its plan to launch stores in the near future.

The Bangalore plant is expected to be functional by April 2017. Check out this video to know more about Apple's awesome products.
