Following the news that Jang Kiha and IU calls it off after their 3-year relationship, rumors have been surfacing online that the actress is dating his former co-star Lee Joon Gi. The two stars in the historical drama "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo."
On Jan. 24, Lee's agency, Namoo Actors released their official statement regarding the issue. "It seems [Lee Joon Gi and IU] had really great chemistry in the drama. It is not true that they are dating," as quoted by Soompi.
The agency added that the two became close with each other since they are working together and that must be the reason why the rumors surfaced. Stressing, all the cast members of "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" are close with each other and they hope there will be no further misunderstandings.
The two stars are well-loved for their role in the drama as Prince Wang So (Lee) and Hae Soo (IU), which tells the story of 25-year old 21st century woman being transported back in time to the Goryeo Dynasty. Waking up in the year 941, she encounters many royal princes of the ruling Wang family and later falls in love with the fearsome fourth Prince.
However, despite its ensemble cast, extensive publicity and a production budget of $13 million USD, the series only clocked in a single-audit average rating of 7.59 percent in South Korea. It might be a failure in Korea where it received major criticism for its screenplay, direction, and performance, but it drew a more favorable response internationally, Naver reported.
Directed by director Kim Kyu Tae, the SBS drama started airing its first episode on Aug. 29, 2016 and wrapped up after 20 episodes on Nov. 1. "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" was based on the Chinese novel "Bu Bu Jing Xin" authored by Tong Hua.
