Celtics shooting guard Marcus Smart apologized for fighting assistant coach in the game against Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. He was seen on television to have a heated and animated argument with two assistant coaches Jerome Allen and Jamie Young.

The 22-year old player was seen to have a brief and heated argument with assistant coaches in the Celtics bench as reported by ESPN. Smart was sent to locker room before the end of the game.

He later took to social media to apologize for his behavior.

The incident happened late in the fourth quarter as the Wizards defeated Celtics 123-108. Smart was playing for 17 minutes in the fourth quarter before head coach Brad Stevens pull him with under 2:30 left in the game according to SB Nation. Celtics was trailing by 13 points at that time.

Smart was unhappy with the decision and he insisted the coaches to put him back to the game. He even waived his towel toward the coaches before the coaching team sent him to locker room. Coach Stevens said that Smart was frustrated because he really wanted to go back into the game, but since he already played for 12 minutes more the coach decided to bench him.

“He wanted to go back in,” coach Steven said. ”He wanted to go back in badly."

One of the reason of his eagerness to return to the game is the heated competition with Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal. The Wizards shooting guard dominated him in the game, scoring 31 points and making five assists. While Smart only posted 13 points with one assists, but he also contributed five rebounds and four steals.

Smart is in his third season with the Celtics after selected as sixth overall in 2014 NBA Draft. The 6’4” guard shows improvement this season averaging 10.0 points, 4.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 30.7 minutes.
