The New York Knicks attempted to deal Carmelo Anthony to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Kevin Love but the deal was rejected according to sources. It is now clear that Carmelo Anthony will no longer be a part of the Knicks sooner than expected.
According to ESPN, Marc Stein confirmed that the New York Knicks tried to deal Carmelo Anthony to the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday. The Cavaliers quickly replied in no time, saying that their team is not interested to send Kevin Love.
Being one of the 3 players in the NBA with a No-Trade-Clause in their contract along with Dirk Nowitzki and LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks reportedly both agreed to waive the NTC if dealt to the Cavs. It seems that Anthony request to be dealt to the Cavaliers as he said before that he will only waive his NTC on his terms.
It may seem to be a surprise that the Cavaliers turned down the deal to take advantage of acquiring a future hall of famer since LeBron James had recently expressed his frustration about the team. James mentioned earlier this week that GM David Griffin needs to work things out about the issues on their current roster.
We may recall that LeBron James stated that he wants to play Carmelo Anthony in the same team someday at least before they retire. Earlier today, James said that they might have an issue with their current roster, trading Kevin Love is not possible since he had played a big role to win the first NBA title for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Meanwhile, in a report by the New York Daily News, Carmelo Anthony said that he doesn't know anything about the trade pitch made by the Knicks. Anthony added that he the Knicks management never contacted him and talk about the said deal.
The issue between the New York Knicks and their superstar has been generating a lot of heat over the past week. With the recent rejected pitch to the Cavaliers, it is very clear that the Carmelo Anthony will not be seen in blue and orange jersey, if not until February 23, probably at the start of the next season.
