Executive Producer Wendy Mericle recently teased that Oliver Queen might rethink his position as the Green Arrow in the instalment. She also briefly talked about Felicity's emotional journey in "Arrow" Season 5.
Oliver has some deep thinking to do in "Arrow" Season 5, especially after he accidentally killed Billy Malone and let Prometheus escape. Mericle hinted that Malone's death and the fact that he cannot get remotely close to Prometheus, prompts him to reconsider his options. It makes him rethink whether he works best as Green Arrow or as a political figure in Star City.
"I think in the back half of the season Oliver will really be assessing whether he's more effective as mayor or more effective as the Green Arrow," Mericle told Screener TV.
Does this mean Oliver might give up his bow and arrow and choose instead to lead the city as mayor? Billy's death greatly affected Oliver, since not only did Prometheus trick him, he also killed an innocent man. Oliver also unintentionally caused Felicity so much pain, following her boyfriend's death.
However, Mericle teased that Oliver (Stephen Amell) might not give up being the Green Arrow at all in "Arrow" Season 5. After all, the show is all about his superhero persona.
In the same interview, Mericle also revealed that Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) goes through an emotional journey in "Arrow" Season 5. She continues to grieve for Malone. She also becomes hell-bent on killing Prometheus and her determination reconnects her to an old part of herself. However, Felicity's new path is not dark and negative, according to Mericle.
Mericle also previously told TV Line, that Felicity does not blame Oliver for Malone's death in "Arrow" Season 5. However, she takes it upon herself to avenge his death and doing so reconnects her with people from her past. These people eventually lead her astray and influence her to do some "pretty morally questionable" things.
