"3 Idiots" sequel has just been confirmed by lead star Aamir Khan.
While at the special screening of "Saala Khadoos," Khan hinted on the possibility of releasing a sequel in the near future.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Khan said that if a sequel will be released, he will definitely reprise his role as Ranchodas "Rancho" Chanchad.
"Raju has given me a hint about '3 Idiots' sequel... The film will happen if and whenever he will write the script. Let's keep our fingers crossed," he said.
Meanwhile, "3 Idiots" director Rajkumar Hirani spoke with Catch News about the sequel.
"As far as the sequel is concerned, I have a germ of an idea, but we have yet to develop it. The film will take some time," he said.
"3 Idiots" was first released in 2009, and it chronicled the life of a 24-year-old engineering student Rancho.
The latter has two best friends named Raju Rastogi and Farhan Qureshi.
During that time, the film reportedly grossed $6.5 million in the United States alone. The movie also became a massive hit in different countries including the Philippines.
As of late, there are already some speculations that the sequel will see the return of Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe or the film's biggest villain.
In other news, while fans are still waiting for more information about the "3 Idiots" sequel, it would be equally exciting to know that Khan will star in the upcoming film called "Dangal."
The biographical sports drama will see the actor play the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, a professional wrestler and an Olympics coach who taught his daughters how to wrestle.
Khan recently dished on the preparations he had to go through to make fit for his role.
According to him, "I will have to lose 25 kilos to play the young version of my character. We will begin shooting for that portion in June and I have already started working out on that. We face many problems, but the actor's body is his instrument and he has to mould it as per the demand of the role," he said.
"Dangal" is slated for release in the next couple of months.
