Seohyun proves once again her vocal prowess at the Jan. 29 episode of MBC's "King of Masked Singer."
The singing competition pits talented singers against one another but with a twist-their identities are concealed with a mask. For the Jan. 29 edition, Seohyun competed as "New Year, Newly Wed Bride Hen," wearing a rooster mask. She beat golf player Shin Ji Yai and proceeded to the semi-finals, as per Soompi.
Seohyun was pitted against the singer known as "Wish You All the Best for 2017" for the semi-finals. Her opponent sang a powerful rendition of Han Kyung Il's "Half of My Life," while she did a charismatic performance of MAMAMOO's "You're the Best," and even showcased her rapping.
The panelists of the show praised her clear and high-pitched voice as Seohyun effortlessly went back and forth from falsetto and showed good control. Before her identity was revealed, the panelists had a hard time guessing her identity. While still wearing a mask, she did a skit with 2AM's Im Seulong and the two performed a funny re-enactment of Scully and Mulder from the X-Files. The skit was done to give the panelists a clue so they can hear her use her speaking voice. One of them mistook her for Choi Hwa Jung instead.
"All the Best" won the second round with 57 votes over the 42 votes "Newlywed Hen" received. After the results were announced, Seohyun performed a rendition of "My Strongest Suit," from the musical Aida. She explained that she wanted to show "the way I am," not just as the youngest member of SNSD, which is why she participated in the show.
Seohyun has revealed a more sophisticated and mature side since the release of her first mini-album, "Don't Say No." Recently, she admitted that initially, the image that SM wanted to project for her was different from what she wanted to portray. Fortunately, her agency respected her wishes, Allkpop reported.
