The Boston Celtics are reportedly in pursuit of Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic as reports show. The Celtics have spoke to the Magic earlier this week about a trade deal where the Celtics could possibly acquire Vucevic.
The Boston Celtics are currently in rank as the 2nd best team in the NBA Eastern Conference, but it is obvious that they really need an upgrade. As the NESN said, the Celtics ranks 2nd at the bottom when it comes to rebounding and 20th in defense despite the team had a very great season this year.
In a recent report, the Celtics talked to the Magic and eventually discussed about a potential trade involving Nikola Vucevic. The Celtics are in search of a big man that will help the team to heal their wounds in the rebound department.
It is no surprise the Vucevic caught the Celtics' attention. Nikola Vucevic can provide the rebound numbers that they need, the Celtics would also have a bonus point if they could acquire Vucevic since he can also defend the low-post area.
On the other hand, the Orlando Magic is asking for either Marcus Smart or Terry Rozier in exchange for Nikola Vucevic according to the Celtics Blog. The Magic really had some troubles on the point guard position specially in scoring end. In this case, it is unlikely that the Celtics general manager Danny Ainge would give up neither of the two.
Another factor that the Celtics need to look in to is the $24 salary of Vucevic. It would potentially provide issues to re-sign Kelly Olynyk next season since his contract is about to expire. Along with Olynyk, there are Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley that are rumored to re-sign with the team for a max contract next summer, which the Celtics would definitely reach their max salary cap.
Last Thursday, several reports came up showing that the Celtics are also eyeing Larry Sanders where he went to the Celtics for a workout. Andrew Bogut is also in the target list of the Celtics along with Jusuf Nurkic of the Denver Nuggets.
