It was December last year when the computer-animated musical comedy film "Sing" was released on the big screen. After its success in the box office, recent reports claim that "Sing 2" is set to be released in 2020.
According to Variety, the distributer and producer of the animated film, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, have revealed that "Sing 2" will be seen on the big screen. The report did also cite that the musical comedy movie was a massive hit, generating $429 million globally that includes $250 million in domestic sales. Aside from its box office success, the publication also noted that the film was nominated in the Golden Globes for the best animation category; however, it was not able to bring home the award as it lost to "Zootopia."
The story of "Sing" revolves around several animals chasing their musical dream. The main cast includes Buster Moon, an optimistic Koala played by Mathew McConaughey. There is also Rosita, played by Reese Witherspoon, a pig and a caring mother who is taking another chance for her musical dream. Don't forget Mike, played by Seth MacFarlane, the little white mouse who earns as a street musician. Another one is Ash, played by Scarlett Johansson, a punk rocker teenage porcupine.
On the other note, just before the film has been shown on the big screen, Movie Pilot already predicted that "Sing 2" has a huge chance to happen. The publication even cited several reasons of why "Sing 2" is for real. It was said that the cast of the film includes big stars who have received or have been nominated in prestigious award bodies. Another reason cited was due to the potential earnings of the movie, which of course has been known now to be well compensated by earning $429 million from a budget of $75 million.
In regards to the release date, it was confirmed that "Sing 2" will hit theaters in December 2020.
Meanwhile, several sequels have been confirmed aside from "Sing 2." It was said that the initial release of "Secret Life of Pets 2" has been moved a year later in July 2018, while "Minions 2" will be on the big screen by July 2020.
