Super Junior's Kyuhyun once again impresses legions of fans after it was revealed that he had finished his thesis for his master's degree. Interestingly, he completed his academic requirements while appearing on TV shows and preparing for Super Junior's comeback.
Kyuhyun wrote a 58-page thesis on the history, development and successes of Korean Pop in Asia, with focus on strategies to globalize and expand K-Pop into Southeast Asia, North America and Europe.
According to Hello Kpop, the thesis is titled "Research on K-Pop's present situation and future chance of development." One of the artists mentioned in the thesis is Super Junior, detailing the group's achievements as well as Siwon's feat when he became the first K-Pop artist to reach a million followers on Twitter.
Kyuhyun also looked into the history of the Hallyu Wave, a term which was first used back in 2000 when H.O.T performed in China. Koreaboo reports that Korean dramas such as "Winter Sonata" and "Dae Jang Geum" were among the subjects touched upon, especially since these dramas were the early catalysts of the Hallyu Wave, together with singers BoA, TVXQ and Rain.
He also discussed K-Pop's attempts to break into the North American market, noting the SMTown concert series that took place in Los Angeles and New York. He also mentioned artists who successfully promoted in North America such as Epik High and their iTunes chart-topping albums as well as PSY's "Gangnam Style."
Meanwhile, Kyuhyun will enlist sometime this year and will be the last Super Junior member to complete his mandatory military service. Kyuhyun's enlistment date has not been set, but he will serve as a public service worker for two years.
Kyuhyun was unable to pass for active duty service due to his history of injuries. Public service workers are those who provide assistance and support in social services and administrative tasks.
