John Lithgow is the latest addition to the upcoming third installment of the "Pitch Perfect" franchise.
Variety reported on Friday that "The Accountant" actor has boarded the cast of the musical film starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. Details on Lithgow's character, however, have not been made available at this point. It is expected that more tidbits about "Pitch Perfect 3" will be leaked soon as production is already underway in Atlanta.
Lithgow, who stars on the Golden Globe winning series "The Crown," is also known for his work on "Miss Sloane" starring Jessica Chastain. He is also rumored to play a role "on Daddy's Home 2." On television, he played The White Rabbit on ABC's "Once Upon A Time" and has guest starred in multi-episodes of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother."
In "Pitch Perfect 3," Lithgow joins previously cast Andy Allo - who has signed on to play the character of Charity, a vocalist in the music group Dew. Entertainment Weekly reported the news of her casting back in January. "Orange Is The New Black" star Ruby Rose is also involved, but her character's description is still under wraps.
As for returning cast members, Kendrick and Wilson will reunite with Bella's core members including Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Ester Dean, Hana Mae Lee, Chrissie Fit and Hailee Steinfeld. "Pitch Perfect 2" director Elizabeth Banks will also return alongside John Michael Higgins as the a cappella commentator duo.
Universal Pictures has yet to release an official synopsis for "Pitch Perfect 3." While this is the case, Kendrick previously teased that the new installment is headed to a new direction.
"It's happening. It's so exciting. I'm really excited about the third one. We are going to make the third one first thing next year.," Kendrick said during an interview in 2015.
"I think everyone's really excited to do something a little different, change up the structure or something and do something really creative."
"Pitch Perfect 3" will arrive in theaters on Dec. 22, 2017.
