The latest episode of "Naruto Shippuden" ends the Shikamaru five-episode arc. Although it did not feature powerful enemies or unique techniques revealed for the first time, it did show Shikamaru's past as well as his possible future.
Chapter 493 Recap/Reactions
After five episodes, Shikamaru has finally faced off his formidable enemy in the current arc. Gengo, a ninja who has mastered the fusion of sound and chakra has taken over the bodies of some Hidden Leaf Ninja. The old team of InoShikaCho and Temari are once again revived to help free their fellow ninjas from the bonds of Gengo.
Ino was able to regain Sai's consciousness by pushing the enemy's control through body transfer while Choji and Temari also removed the mind control from Soku and Ro by sheer physical force. On the other hand, Shikamaru may have reached Gengo for the final fight but he still needs help from his teammates because his shadow clone jutsu cannot be used in total darkness.
As expected InoShikaCho with Temari's help was victorious against Gengo. According to Anime News Network, the episode ends with a sweet moment where Shikamaru asking Temari for a date while Sai asking Ino the same question.

According to The Anime Scrolls, the upcoming episode will focus on the wedding of Naruto and Hinata. Although everyone already knows what happens, it's always expected that some hijinks are expected especially when Naruto has to deal with something this serious in his life. The only question is whether Naruto and the rest of the ninjas will face some enemy before the wedding could start.
The series of episodes in "Naruto Shippuden" continues the original anime story not found in manga. These episodes practically tell the stories that weren't told in its original manga source. Hopefully, Naruto's further adventures before he becomes the Hokage continues after the wedding.
