The Cleveland Cavaliers has just traded Chris Andersen to the Charlotte Hornets earlier today. After receiving Andersen, the Hornets quickly waived him out to open up a new spot on their roster.

The ESPN confirmed that the Cavaliers sent Chris Andersen to the Charlotte Hornets with just 10 days left before the NBA trade deadline. Along with the Birdman, the Hornets also received an undisclosed cash consideration, while the Cavaliers received a top-55 second round draft pick.

Chris Andersen had a season-ending injury as he was diagnosed with a torn right ACL last December. The Birdman was signed with the Cavs to provide depth in the big-man position, for interior defense and glass cleaning as the USA Today said in their report.

Andersen already missed more than half of the season as he was ruled out until next summer. Chris Andersen finished this season with 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per night. The Cavaliers decided to move him out as they need to acquire a new player to replace him.

The Cavaliers are known to have an issue on their roster, not just on the point guard position that LeBron James has been emphasizing, but also on the big man position. The Cavs has been trying to figure out their gap on their roster, as they found themselves with troubles on the rebounding department.

Last week, the Cavaliers acquired Derrick Williams for 10-day contract to help them out on their games before the NBA All-Star Weekend. Williams is known to be a no-position player, a reason that several analysts said, where he is not expected to be with the team for the rest of the season.

However, Derrick Williams' is performing well during his previous games with the Cavaliers, making LeBron James to call the front office, suggesting to keep him for a long time. The Cavaliers have utilized Williams to perform the task of a power forward and a small forward since day 1.

With Chris Andersen out, the Cavaliers may now use their free spot to acquire new talent from the free agent pool. They may now have the chance to acquire the backup point guard they need.
