From playing the lead roles in medical dramas "Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim" and "Doctors," Han Suk Kyu and Kim Rae Won are all set to take the big screen for crime thriller "The Prison."
According to Korea Times, the upcoming Korean film follows the story of Ik Ho (Han Suk Kyu), a leader of the prison, who is known for his ability to execute crimes with other inmates without difficulties.
Han Suk Kyu described Ik Ho as the "most evil character" he has played in his entire acting career. The 52-year-old actor initially thought it will not be easy to portray such character for "The Prison."
"I was wondering why the director insisted I take the role even though I felt like "these clothes are not mine." I was instinctively afraid," he said.
The veteran actor will share the screen with Kim Rae Won, who will play as an ex-cop in "The Prison." Formerly known for his role as a neurosurgeon in "Doctors," the young actor will try to unravel the mystery of his brother's death in the upcoming movie.
"I thought "that's it" upon reading the screenplay. The character was very attractive, and, above all, I was drawn to the fact that I was going to work with [Han Suk Kyu," Kim Rae Won said.
Director Na Hyun revealed it took him two weeks to draft the story of the crime thriller. However, the producer spent two more years to finish the final version of "The Prison" before they started filming.
Han Suk Kyu and Kim Rae Won are two of the most sought-after actors in the Korean entertainment. In fact, their recent dramas ended with impressive viewership ratings.
Soompi cited "Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim" recorded a viewership ratings of 27 percent for its prequel episode. Not only that, the Han Suk Kyu starrer surpassed its predecessor, "Doctors," in terms of figures.
Both high-rated drama series were produced by SBS last year. Hence, the network has been commended for their excellence in producing quality medical dramas. Aside from the two, SBS also produced Lee Jong Suk's "Doctor Stranger" and Joo Won's "Yong Pal."
Meanwhile, Han Suk Kyu and Kim Rae Won's "The Prison" will hit the theaters in March.
