Droughtlander will not be lasting for long as the premiere date for "Outlander" Season 3 has been announced. Production for the next season is also moving fast and is heading to South Africa for filming.
The gap between the first two seasons of "Outlander" was about 14 months. However, production is speeding up for "Outlander" Season 3, having started in September 2016 and is scheduled to wrap up by June this year, Variety reported.
According to Deadline, filming will move from Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa this March. The show will use the former sets used for Starz series "Black Sails" to "shoot pivotal sea voyage scenes" that will be featured in the last five episodes of "Outlander" Season 3. Lead stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan will be filming on location in Africa.
"While 'Droughtlander' will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety," Starz president of programming Carmi Zlotnik said.
"Outlander" Season 3 picks up after Balfe's character, Claire, travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. She's carrying Jamie's child in her womb, and upon her return faces the consequences of her mysterious disappearance and its effect on her marriage to her husband Frank, played by Tobias Menzies.
Back in the 18th century, Heughan's Jamie deals with the aftermath of the historic Battle of Culloden and struggles with Claire's absence. In the years that pass things begin to change, and each cope with the longing for one another's love. Claire and Jamie will soon reunite after two decades, but their years apart might have put a gap in their relationship.
"Outlander" Season 3 will premiere in September 2017 on Starz.
