AJ Styles is set to headline WrestleMania 33 this year - a very impressive feat considering he's barely a year from the WWE. But his anticipated match with Bray Wyatt may go up in smoke as recent events stir up a controversy before the annual event in April.
AJ Styles on WrestleMania Main Event
A few days ago, AJ Styles became the top contender for the Bray Wyatt's championship belt by defeating Luke Harper, according to Fox Sports. After the controversial draw during the Battle Royale for the Wyatt's top contender, Styles and Harper had to duke it out one-on-one to determine the real winner. It was an amazing display for both wrestlers but Styles came out on top and earned the right to challenge the champion in WrestleMania 33.
AJ Styles first appearance in WWE was more than a year ago in Royal Rumble 2016 and his meteoric rise to fame in the wrestling world is undeniable. Barely a year from his rookie appearance, he is now set to be the WWE Champion.
Randy Orton Spoils the Party
While it could be the red carpet from this point to WrestleMania 33 for AJ Styles, someone came along to spoil the party. While Styles is already set for what could be a career defining match, Randy Orton came along and pushed his case for Wyatt' belt according to Comic Book. Orton's case for a match for the belt is by virtue of winning this year's Royal Rumble and the win allows him to challenge any belt he chooses in WrestleMania 33.
The only way this could happen is a three-way match as the main event which is an epic proposition, by the way. However, Styles could not get any straight answer from Shane McMahon during the post "Smackdown" show "Talking Smack" stating that they have "a lot to discuss" about the current situation.
Styles could end up fighting Shane McMahon over this or he'll even have to fight Orton. It's still March and a lot of things could happen before the big event.
