Jordan Peele's "Get Out" will go down as one in history as one of the best movies of the year. But it's intense and remarkably scary plot might have actually gone darker if the first draft of the film was followed according to director.
A Bleaker Ending (Warning: Heavy Spoilers)
"Get Out" is a runaway hit thanks to word of mouth, impressive review (99% in Rotten Tomatoes) and fans going out to support the effort of comedian Jordan Peele. Raking in more than $57 million in ticket sales against $4.5 million budget has cemented the comedian/director as one of the fresh voices in the genre.
His fresh voice in horror may have actually got a darker tone according to Gizmodo. In the end, Chris successfully leaves the house after fighting through the family members of Rose for their body and mind swap procedure. Chris may have ended up in jail after a police car arrived but it turns out that the police car was manned by his friend Rod.
But the first proposal was much bleaker. Peele originally planned to get Chris in jail because of the rampage he made at Rose's house. He stressed that they wanted to emphasize that race problems still exist and the ending should provide that thought in a really bleak setting.
A Change of Pace
In the end, Peele decided to use a more positive ending. According to Variety, they ended to opt for a most positive ending so that the audience would enjoy something positive after they go out of the movie house.
However, it's still interesting to see on how it would have played out if the ending was much bleaker. Hopefully, the alternate ending would end up in the special features in Blu-ray because Chris' reaction to the arrest after getting rid of Rose's family is reason enough to check out the special feature.
