Former Sharp member Lee Ji Hye has shared her experience about a controversy over her alleged breast implants on the recent airing of Heard It Through the Grapevine. She recalled how her label asked her to hold a press conference in a bikini just to end off the issue.
"My label CEO told me to provide justification to stop the controversy, but he didn't even show up that day," Lee recalled. "Now that I think about it, I think it was aiming for noise marketing because it was when an album was released."
The Without You hitmaker admitted she was too young to make mature decisions and thus acted as what she was told to do so.
"I don't think I can ever do it now if anyone tells me to, but back then I was so young, I just thought I had to do it no matter what," she said.
The singer also explained why she frequently raises her arms during photoshoots. "Do they know if you have undergone surgery or not if you wear a bikini? (Probably not) That's why I lifted my arms up, because back then a lot of the breast augmentation was done through the armpits," she explained.
The South Korean band Sharp rose to fame between the late 1990s and early 2000s. Its band members include Chris Kim, Jang Seok-hyun, Seo Ji-young and Lee Ji-hye.
The group broke up because its female singers had difficulties working together. According to reports, Seo Ji-young was intensely bullying her co-star Lee Ji-hye to the point that the company they were working for forced to disband them.
Since the breakup, Lee Ji-hye has released a solo album Without You featuring the cover song Love Me Love Me.
