Atlanta Hawks has filled the void in the point guard position by obtaining veteran Jose Calderon off his waiver from the Warriors. The 35-year old point guard is expected to bring his excellent ball distribution for the Hawks.

According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Calderon became the new members of Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, March 1 after he was claimed off waivers a day earlier. He has begun to practice with the team on Sunday, but did not make into the rotation. He will need to understand the system from coach Mike Budenholzer and adapted to his team mate.

Calderon was waived by Lakers last week and Golden State Warriors immediately signed him on Wednesday, March 1. However after incident that injured Kevin Durant, the Warriors waived him two hours after signed him and bringin in Matt Barnes.

Hawks was one of the team that targeted Calderon after his buyout from Lakers. But he chose the Warriors, which later waived him. When he was available for the second time, Atlanta Hawks called him again, and he answered well this time.

“There was a good talk, a good feeling about it,” Calderon said regarding his decision to join Hawks. “That’s way I made the decision.”

He is expected to bring his playmaking capability to the Hawks. However, according to CBS Sports, he may be put as the third option as point guards. It is because the Hawks already has Dennis Schroder and Malcolm Delaney in point guard.

Delaney is a shooting guard with an ability to make assists. For the reason, coach Budenholzer put him as the backup point guard for Schroder. While in the shooting guard the main option is Kent Bazemore with Tim Hardaway Jr. as the backup.

As for Calderon, during his short tenure Lakers he only played for 24 games after he was obtained from the Knicks last September. Averaging only 3.3 points and 2.2 assists in 12.2 minutes.
