The NBA 2017 NBA draft will not be short on talent at the guard position with two top prospects being tagged as potential superstars.
Lonzo Ball and Markelle Fultz of UCLA and Washington respectively are likely to be the first two players chosen.
Just how good are these two college freshmen? If you ask LaVar Ball, father of Lonzo and also a basketball coach, his son is pretty good-better than a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player. The elder Ball claimed that his son is better than Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Of course, this comment was met with much criticism and when he appeared on the Fox Sports 1 show The Undisputed, he claimed that he has not gone on a limb with his comments. (h/t Clutch Points)
"On the fact that I have the utmost confidence on what my son does. And just because I say that he's better than somebody. Who cares? I believe it. So I don't care what nobody else says. You can judge on your own."
He continued: "I know what kind of work my boy put in for me to say that. Just because someone else has titles, and I'm not disliking Steph Curry or nothing. What he's done for himself, that's for him."
"I know what my boy is all about," said LaVar Ball. "He was the best player in high school, he was the best player in college, you think he's gonna make it to the pros and say 'I made it to the pros, now I can be average.' Nah - he's coming for everybody."
Charles Barkley, former NBA MVP and now TNT commentator, had some choice words in reaction: "you can be proud of your son, but at some point, it becomes stupidity." (h/t FTW)
Barkley also questioned Ball's parenting approach: "His son's life is his life, not yours," Barkley said. "No matter what he's trying to accomplish, it's not his. So I wish his son nothing but the best. His kid's a heck of a player. But I don't like when parents interject."
Barkley objects to Ball's blatant endorsement of his son which actually places more pressure on the young player. Lonzo Ball is projected as a top five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft in June.
