Tom Cruise is surely the most famous face and member of Scientology. However, many of his fans wonder if his religion is the main reason for his divorce to Katie Holmes and estranged relationship to his daughter, Suri Cruise.
Tom Cruise is allegedly willing to defend Scientology in all possible ways. According to News.com.au, Katie Holmes' ex-husband has reportedly intervened in the divorce of a top executive of a Hollywood studio when Scientology was mentioned.
The publication states that Tom Cruise intervened in the divorce of John Goldwyn in 2003, who was then the Production President of Paramount Pictures that time. Goldwyn filed for divorce from his wife, Colleen Camp, an actress who is a member of Scientology. Goldwyn wanted divorce because he felt that the belief was alienating affection to his daughter.
According to E! Online, Goldwyn said Tom was upset at first when Camp handed the divorce papers through the leaders of Scientology. The "Mission Impossible" actor reportedly believed that Goldwyn was launching a bad campaign against Scientology.
"Tom got very upset because he thought I was launching a campaign against Scientology, and he felt I was persecuting him for his religion," Goldwyn says in his interview. "Tom was rabid about it and said, 'It is because of people like you that I have to ride in a bulletproof car and why I cannot practice my faith openly.'"
Fortunately, Sherry Lansing, the CEO of Paramount Pictures explained the situation to Tom and said he was not a bigot and that Goldwyn was just fighting for the custody of his daughter. Her explanation made Tom understand Goldwyn, which made the "Jack Reacher" actor intervened and helped Goldwyn finalize the divorce through a settlement.
Reports also claimed that the marriage of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise was affected by Scientology beliefs which just led to divorce.
