"Beauty and the Beast" has become a serious hit worldwide that it overshadowed the premiere of "Power Rangers" which led to the latter only becoming a one-weekend wonder. The movie dropped by a huge amount of percentage from its' weekend of premiere.
During its premiere weekend, "Power Rangers" earned about $40.3 million but dropped down to just $14.5 million on the second weekend if their run in the theaters. This has led them to a drop of 64% in earnings as they stayed on longer in cinemas.
According to Forbes, the movie was made under the budget of $110 million and unless production decides to keep the film on theaters, it is unlikely that they will meet the $100 million mark in movies. Despite the high amount they earned during the debut of the film, it does not look good for the succeeding days thereafter.
In their defense, they have a sheer amount if competition in the cinemas namely "Beauty and the Beast," and "Ghost in the Shell." Now, with the eighth franchise to "Fast and the Furious" coming soon, it is more unlikely for "Power Rangers" to up its game even more.
As for "Beauty and the Beast," which was one of the highly anticipated Disney film adaptation, Deadline reported that Disney is now approaching $900 million of income worldwide. The premiere of the movie "Ghost in the Shell" on the other hand hit the number two spot in top grossing films overseas.
There is still a possibility that Lionsgate decides to keep "Power Rangers" in the big screens to earn the mark as said earlier. However, given the rate of how its drop was similar to the "Green Lantern" and "Batman vs. Superman" premieres, it is highly unlikely that they get more audience the longer they stay in the cinemas.
"Beauty And The Beast" stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. The movie is still out in the cinemas.
