After three years, "SMTOWN Live" will be back in South Korea this 2017! SM Entertainment has confirmed that they are bringing back the massive concert event that brings together all the agency's artists in one spectacular show.
According to Korea Herald, an insider revealed that the fifth "SMTOWN Live" has been scheduled to take place on July 8 this year and will be held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. Although last year NCT, Girls' Generation, Red Velvet, EXO Super Junior, BoA, SHINee and f(x) staged an "SMTOWN Live Tour" in Japan last year, this is the first time the show will be hosted in South Korea.
SM Entertainment first launched "SMTOWN Live" in 2008 as a move to bring artists closer to their global fans. Since its inception, concerts have been held in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Beijing and Tokyo.
What makes "SMTOWN Live" extra special for fans is the fact that SM Entertainment artists perform special stages that only happen during the concerts. The show can go for as long as 5 hours and with 75 artists performing at the event.
Although there's no word yet as to the official lineup, all of SM Entertainment's artists are expected to join, including rookie group NCT. TVXQ's Yunho is also expected to participate since he will be discharged from the military by April 20.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that SM Entertainment has bought a controlling stake in Mystic Entertainment agency, which is the home of singers Ga-In, Brown Eyed Girls, Eddy Kim, Thunder and more.
Yonhap News reported that SM Entertainment acquired a 28 percent stake in the music label through a "strategic investment" in a move to become Mystic's biggest shareholder. SM plans to invest both resources and talent to further develop Mystic into a world-class music label.
