On Saturday, it was Corey Anderson who dazzled with the bat and as well as the ball for Delhi Daredevils. After posting 188 on the scoreboard, everything seemed to head in the right direction for Daredevils who did not give any chance to Kings XI Punjab.
After a solid start by Sam Billings and Sanju Samson, Delhi Daredevils cruised their way to go past the 180 mark and post a match-winning total. Kings XI Punjab had a shaky start and they seemed to never recover leading to the defeat.
Daredevils skipper Zaheer Khan noted that they started decently without losing a wicket the first six overs. They knew that the wicket was on a slower side and they executed their plans well.
"Just doing the basics right. Got a decent start, not losing wickets in the first six. The wicket was on the slower side and we executed our plans well. On that wicket, it was important we gained momentum at the right time. Sanju and Billings provided a good start. We have good batters at the end, we have to provide a good foundation for them," Zaheer said.
Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell of Kings XI Punjab stated that they gave 30 more runs to Delhi Daredevils and they could not sustain the pressure.
"We were a bit behind with the bat there. Let them get 188 which was far too many on that wicket. We gave away probably 30 too many. There were too many boundary balls and we did not sustain the pressure. They got away at the back end. It (the wicket) stayed slow and did not allow us to get going. The execution from the bowlers has to improve. They have good plans going into the game, but it is about executing them in pressure situations," Maxwell said.
