The Manila production of "Godspell" by Stephen Schwartz will be modernized by Filipino musical directors Ejay Yatco and Anton Juan, and will be choreographed by Dexter Santos. The play is primarily based on the 'Gospel of Matthew' authored by John-Michael Tabelak.

The biblical parable will be told in various musical genre's and styles with the goal of capturing a broader range of audience, particularly the millennials. Ejay explained during an interview with a local news channel that they want to showcase the different walks of life through different musical styles.

Ejay was apparently inspired to direct the play out of concern for his country. He said that he thought of all the current problems that the people are facing and wondered what he could do to reach the different sectors of the society to open their eyes to these social problems. He decided that "Godspell" was the perfect choice since it is a portal of the self. He believes that through the musical, God may be able to every viewer.

The storytelling is assisted by different visuals, revolutionizing the imagery to capture the current generation. Well-known parables such as "The Good Samaritan," "The Prodigal Son," and much more will be told in a different way so that every genre can relate to it.

They production team also updated the setting to conform to the modern world. So instead of a Pharisee, they reference Filipino Politics such as Politicians and Congressmen to make the issues more relevant.

The production crew also revealed that they will be using two electric guitars on the set. So how does Evangelic music sound when it is turned to rock? People will just have to watch the play to find out.

The production, which features an a complete Filipino cast, will be staged on June 17-19 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of RCBC Plaza in Makati City, Philippines.
