Girl group 4minute have announced that they are disbanding. After seven years of working together, the group members are set to go their separate ways once their contract with Cube Entertainment ends this month.
According to a statement from 4minute, their decision to disband was made after a long consideration of different factors, and it was mutually agreed upon by the group and the music label. Popular member Hyun-A is the only one so far who has re-signed with Cube Entertainment, with the others said to be still considering their options.
According to an insider, the members each have different plans in mind for the future. Their conflicting priorities is apparently why they are disbanding since it will be difficult to maintain the team.
4minute was formed by Cube Entertainment in 2009 and debuted with the single Hot Issue. The girls were unofficially called the Hyuna Group before Cube Entertainment rebranded them as 4minute.
4minute is composed of Nam Ji-Hyun, Heo Ga-Yoon, Jeon Ji-yoon, A, and Kwon So-Hyun. The group was a recipient of the Bonsang Awards at the 20th Seoul Music Awards. They were also awarded the Kpop New Artist Award at the 2010 Billboard Japan Music Awards. Although they are primarily known for their upbeat sound, they released a ballad single named Cold Rain in January.
The group launched their first Japanese album Diamond in 2010 and their first full Korean album in 2011. The popular girl group has multiple albums and hits, notably HuH, which reached number three on the Gaon Singles Chart. The group is well-known in Asia and have toured Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines.
