Kokubun Taichi has announced that his wife is pregnant with their first child. The popular keyboardist of Tokio made the announcement on TBS Program Hakunetsu Live Vivit.
In the announcement, which was done in the latter part of the show, Kokubun stated that while it is a private matter, he is very elated to reveal the news to the public. The announcement drew cheers and congratulatory applause from the crowd.
The musician/actor also shared his thoughts, explaining that he still cannot believe it is real. He also voiced his thankfulness, stating that he always wanted to have kids.
The announcement elicited a suggestion from J-Pop star Kato Shigeaki that if it is a boy, then the baby should join Johnny's, referring to Johnny's Entertainment. MC Maya Miki, on the other hand, suggested that if it is a girl, then she should join Japanese all-female musical theater group Takarazuka. Kokubun replied that he would have to think about their suggestions.
Kokubun married former TBS employee Ms. A in September 2015 after dating for seven years.
Kokubun Taichi used to be a backup dancer for Johnny's Entertainment bands, which includes Hikaru Genji, prior to debuting as the keyboardist for Tokio in 1990. The group shot to fame in 2001 following the release of the single Doitsu Mo Koitsu Mo. He briefly took a leave of absence from Tokio to form a temporary group Toraji Haiji in 2004. Kokubun is also an established actor with roles in the Abunai Shonen III TV series and movies such as Shaberedomo Shaberedomo and Fantisipo.
