Japanese folk-pop duo Yuzu are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year with a tour of Asia. The duo, Yujin Kitagawa, and Koji Iwasawa, have revealed how they have managed to stay together for the past 20 years.
This year has been eventful for the singers. They recently released their 13th album and are set to have their first Asian tour. They are expected to visit and share their music at several locations across Asia including Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong.
The tour has been named "Yuzu Asua Tour 2016 Summer Natsuiro" in memory of the duo's first hit single Natsuiro, which released in the year 1998. It was the song that paved their way for Yuzu's success in the music industry. The duo claim that the song was randomly written during an ordinary summer day when they were walking on the street.
Yuzu have reminisced about the first time they started making music together. Initially, they wrote songs together, but when they felt that it was not going anywhere, they decided to compose their songs individually. Another thing they enjoyed doing was harmonizing with each other's voices. It was then that the people around them discovered how well their voices blended that they decided to continue composing songs.
The two noted that the secret to how they have remained together as a group for 20 years was that they learned how to be close by not being too close. They both connect through music, but they also give each other personal space when needed. Iwasawa said that in times of conflict, they are able to resolve their issues because they know that all they have is each other.
Kitagawa noted that it is really their strong love for music that has kept them close. He said that he wants to continue making music with Iwasawa until his body can.
According to Kitagawa, it has been their dream to tour Asia. But he noted that their greatest achievement is embarking on the tour together.
