Director Hong Sang Soo's wife has released a statement following the revelation that her husband has been having an affair with actress Kim Min Hee.
In an interview with Dispatch, Mrs. Wong and some friends let it all out as they discussed their feelings, and thoughts about the affair as well as the current status of her relationship with the director.
Hong Sang Soo and his wife met while studying in America. Hong Sang Soo studied at the California College of the Arts while Mrs. Wong studied in Berkeley. The marriage produced one child who is now a young adult.
In the interview, Mrs. Hong said that they lived together as a married couple for 30 years and that they were the envy of other couples due to the stability of their marriage. She described Hong Sang Soo as a caring family man who she loves as a husband as well as respected as a director.
She narrated that her husband told her directly of his desire to live with someone else and advised her to date other men as well. According to her, the director professed his love for someone else and said that he wants to settle down and have a family with the one he loves. Hong apparently also confessed to his daughter that he was involved with another woman.
Mrs. Hong also said that she was told by Kim Min Hee that she should have taken care of her husband better when she confronted the actress. The actress allegedly also told her mother, who tried to intervene, not to listen to Mrs. Hong because she is crazy.
