Even before the new series of "The Legend of Mi Yue" gets to be officially televised, the upcoming TV series has now garnered the attention of its overseas viewers. The 81-episode series will officially be aired starting this Nov. 30.
Directed by Zheng Xialong, "The Legend of Mi Yue" is based on the life of Mi, the great grandmother of China's first emperor Ying Zheng during the Qin Dynasty from 221 BC to 206 BC. The life story is based on ancient China's first female politician who is also credited for unifying ancient China.
As most stories go, Mi Yue, started as a simple girl, but became a strong, influential and a woman with an iron hand behind the throne. Her reforms became responsible for weakening the power of aristocrats and creating a stronger military force that led to the beginning of the Qin Dynasty, which unified ancient China.
The known director also compared Mi to the queen of England and Ireland Elizabeth I, from 1558 to 1603. "Mi is an upright and tolerant politician. She insists on being true to her heart until the end of her life," Zheng says.
Director Zheng is also excited about the interest of the overseas market with the soon to be shown TV series. "Almost all the channels and video-streaming sites that released The Legend of Zhen Huan are showing strong interest in The Legend of Mi Yue," he says.
"The Legend of Zhen Huan" premiered in 2011 with 76 episodes and was streamed by Netflix last 2014 in the United States. It has been aired around 120 times in China and received great reviews in South Korea and Japan.
The new series will be regarded as the successor to the successful hit. The upcoming series is expected to be released by Netflix and will contain an English version with subtitles.
