Following the shootout at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift joined hundreds of stars to sign a petition calling the public attention to gun violence.
The petition was organized by Billboard, following reports that the U.S. Senate rejected four new gun control proposals on June 20.
Billboard Magazine has featured the appeal letter as a cover for its latest issue. The magazine highlighted its social responsibility by recruiting leading executives and artists in the music industry to join their voice to the growing clamor for change.
Aside from Swift and Perry, other notable icons in the music industry that signed the petition are Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, Billy Joel, Barbara Streisand, and Paul McCartney, to name a few.
The magazine featured the names of all the stars and executives who signed the petition on the front and back covers.
The petition letter appeals to the U.S. Congress to ensure that stricter laws are enforced relating to the purchase of firearms. It also points out that more than 90 Americans die every day due to gun-related violence. The petition is calling for potential gun owners be subjected to stringer checks before being allowed to purchase a firearm.
