The popularity of South Korean indie rock band Hyukoh is crossing over to China, with the band's upcoming concert making waves in the country. Tickets to the Hyukoh's upcoming concert have sold out in just one minute, a monumental proof of the band's popularity.
In a press release from Duruduru AMC, the company said, "The 3,000 tickets for Hyukoh's exclusive concert in Shanghai sold out in one minute after the ticket box opening. Hyukoh is already hot in China, even before its China debut."
Hyukoh is composed of lead vocalist and primary songwriter Oh Hyuk, bassist Im Dong-gun, lead guitarist Lim Hyun-jae, and Lee In-woo on the drums. The group is scheduled to hold its first ever concert in China on July 9.
Hyukoh is also known as 20/22, a sort of moniker that highlights the band's first to EPs, 20 and 22.
Hyukoh first made waves in the Chinese music scene when the band performed at the Strawberry Music Festival in May. The band performed to thousands of Chinese fans in Beijing and Shanghai.
The band also appeared on the MBC variety show Infinite Challenge in 2015. Moreover, the band's vocalist, Oh, contributed a song to the soundtrack of Replay 1988, a drama series that aired on tvN back in 2015.
Aside from its slated gigs in China, the band is also scheduled to play in several Asian hotspots. The band will play at Summersonic, a Japanese music festival held in Tokyo and Osaka, from Aug. 20 to 21. At the event, Hyukoh is scheduled to play at the Osaka stage on Aug. 20 and at the Tokyo stage on Aug. 21.
Hyukoh was founded in 2014. All of its members were born in the year 1993, and their album titles were an allusion to the members' age at the time when the albums were released.
