"Descendants of the Sun," the Korean drama show that became a huge hit, will be produced as a full film feature and will headline the big screen in China.
China Radio International's English Service reported Thursday that veteran Chinese director Zhang Yibai has been chosen to helm the movie adaptation of "Descendants of the Sun." Zhang, in a press conference on Tuesday, admitted to being nervous and pressured, as he notes that public expectations will be high due to the ratings of the popular hit TV drama, Asia One reported.
Acknowledging the "Descendants of the Sun's" popularity, Zhang hopes to bank on it but at the same time stressed the need to improve further to make the movie an even further hit. Some said that he may actually make "Descendants of the Sun" movie a hit one, as he is no stranger to pressure, being highly acclaimed for his work in films which proved to be critical hits. Currently, the cast for "Descendants of the Sun" movie has not yet been decided.
Meanwhile, according to The BitBag, the producers of "Descendants of the Sun" are considering to do a sequel, but no confirmation yet has been released. In addition, the new season of the show may also introduce different characters, as both Song Joong Ki and Song Hye-Kyo may not be able to reprise their roles.
"Descendants of the Sun" tells the story of a Special Forces Unit captain sent on a peacekeeping mission to a war-torn nation. There, he subsequently met and fell in love with a surgeon who is working in a voluntary organization to help the victims of war.
Rumored couple Joong Ki and Hye Kyo headlined the drama series, which was a phenomenon not only in Korea but especially in China, where the show broke records in terms of viewership.
