Following the series finale of "Penny Dreadful" Season 3, fans of the hit Showtime drama have signed a petition for Netflix to revive the show for a fourth season onwards.
"Penny Dreadful" Season 3's June 19 two-part episode marked the series finale of the show, which saw lead character Vanessa (palyed by Eva Green) getting shot by Ethan (played by Josh Hartnett) to save London and the world from Dracula. After Vanessa's burial, fans saw the words "The End," which immediately spurred speculations that "Penny Dreadful" has officially ended.
The petition made via Change.org two weeks ago by an Italian fan is asking the streaming giant to revive "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 "because of its high quality and brilliant universe of characters," and to "produce one or more seasons" of the critically-acclaimed drama.
The petition has now more than 10,000 supporters, but Netflix has not yet release any comment regarding the issue. While fans are eager to save "Penny Dreadful" from never returning to television, creator and showrunner John Logan has already said in June that the series has been mapped out to run for only three seasons, adding that the final two episodes is exactly how he has envisioned the show to end.
Showtime boss David Nevins empathized with fans and how the rest of them are taking the fate of "Penny Dreadful," telling Deadline that he thinks they are going through the same stages of grief, that he himself, experienced when he first heard that "Penny Dreadful" is ending.
"But hopefully you come through it and you realize you know that was incredibly satisfying, even uplifting," Nevins told the publication.
"27 episodes, 27 hours was the right amount of time to tell this story."
"Penny Dreadful," which hails from executive producers Pippa Harris and Sam Mendes, debuted in Showtime in 2014. The series also starred Billie Piper, Danny Sapani, Harry Treadawaway, Helen McCrory and Reeve Carney.
