Rob Lowe boarded the cast of NBC's medical drama, "Code Black," as a series regular role.
The actor, who's recent TV credits include "The Grinder" and "Parks and Recreation," will portray the character of Col. Ethan Willis, a doctor in the US military's combat casualty research program, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Having been transferred from a hospital in Afghanistan, Willis heads to Angeles Memorial to teach combat medicine.
Lowe's character is described as "aggressive" and rule-breaking," a trait which will help him catch the attention of Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gray Harden). He will make his "Code Black" debut on the show's second season premiere this fall.
Lowe has previously starred on FOX's cancelled comedy, "The Grinder," which also earned him an Emmy nomination.
"Code Black" Season 2 has officially started production. A behind-the-scenes photo has been shared by Lowe himself last week on Instagram where he was joined by other "Code Black" cast members.
"First day of medical boot camp on #CodeBlack #selfie surrounded by great actors," Lowe said.

Lowe's casting comes from "Code Black"'s plan to reboot its second season to attract younger viewers. Recently, now former cast members Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey departed the series. The duo has been replaced by three new recurring players which include Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Tyra and Nafessa Williams - set to portray new residents of Angels Memorial.
"Code Black," which hails from executive producer Brett Mahoney and Michael Seitzman, also stars Ben Hollingsworth, Harry M. Ford, Luis Guzman, Melanie Kannakada, and William Allen Young. It follows the busiest, most notorious hospital ER, Angels Memorial Hospital lead by Director Leanne Rorish.
"Code Black" Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 10PM on CBS.
