Sony Pictures Animation officially announced that their film "EmojiMovie: Express Yourself" will be hitting the big screen next year. Another surprise was when they announced that "Deadpool" star, TJ Miller, will be voicing the lead character of the film.
Miller landed the lead role of Gene after auditioning for "EmojiMovie: Express Yourself." According to Cinema Blend, the actor enacted several emoji expressions during his audition, only to find out later on that the movie was not going to be a live-action one. The team found it hilarious when he enacted a disappointed face after the unfortunate discovery. His wit and real-life semblance to the film's character is said to be one of the reasons why he landed the big role.
According to a synopsis reported by Variety, Miller's character, Gene in the film "EmojiMovie: Express Yourself" is originally a "meh" emoji like his parents. But a glitch has unexpectedly caused him to display multiple expressions outside of his control. He struggles with the need to feel and become normal, but the question that leaves fans hanging is if whether or not the glitch could be Gene's gift.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. and Paramount also expressed their interest in producing the "EmojiMovie: Express Yourself." Sony was lucky enough to have won the bid. President of Sony, Kristine Belson, said that the studio has been exerting efforts to enlarge the company's presence in terms of its animation landscape, and the film was an additional element to make it happen.
"EmojiMovie: Express Yourself' will be directed by Anthony Leondis and is slated for release on Aug. 11, 2017.
