South Indian megastar Rajinikanth's latest movie "Kabali" has reportedly earned a record Rs 250 crore in India on its first day.
In a press release on Saturday, makers of the gangster drama claimed that "Kabali" has collected Rs 100 crore from Tamil Nadu state and Rs 150 crore from remaining India on its first day. The movie also collected around Rs 100 crore outside India.
Producer S Thanu even said in a statement that "It is the best collection an Indian actor has ever had. It shows that there is only superstar and that is Rajinikanth," Press Trust of India (PTI) news service reported.
"Kabali" also managed to beat Salman Khan's recently released Bollywood movie "Sultan," as it became highest grossing Indian film on the opening day. The movie also registered the highest ever opening for an Indian film in United States and Malaysia.
"Kabali" is likely to become second most successful regional film in India after Prabhas and Tamannaah starrer epic fantacy drama "Baahubali: The Beginning." The movie is expected to do good business in its opening weekend.
"The start has been phenomenal. It has to be seen whether the film can sustain the momentum through the first week," Financial Express quoted trade analyst Trinath as saying.
The 65-year-old Rajinikanth's much-awaited crime thriller was released in 10000 screens worldwide on Friday. It was released in Tamil language and dubbed in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and other Indian languages. The film also features Radhika Apte, Dhansika, Winston Chao, Kishore, Dinesh and Kalairasan in key roles.
