The producers behind the hit TV series "Descendants of the Sun" has scored another blockbuster, as "Train to Busan" is expected to be the first film to break the record of South Korea's 10 million admissions mark. Its total gross just in 4 days was able to break-even the $10 million cost that the company has shelled out to produce the film.
Since "Train to Busan's" release on Wednesday, the Korean Zombie film directed by Yeon Sang-Ho has garnered approximately 872,000 viewers during its opening day. It has surpassed the record of "Captain America: Civil War" with a number of 727,901 viewers.
In addition, Kpop Herald reported that after four days, "Train to Busan" has garnered about 4.12 million local viewers, which was more than the number needed to cover the film's total cost. Its popularity has convinced analyst that it was not impossible for "Train to Busan" to surpass a 5 million mark by the end of the weekend.
Meanwhile, due to the success of "Train to Busan" and having earned the title of being the nation's most acclaimed film for the summer, several fans continue to hope that a "Descendants of the Sun" would follow to the big screen. However, The Christian Times reported that Next Entertainment World (NEW) will not be producing the movie adaptation, since there were already previous announcements that producers from China would produce the film.
As of date, no further details about "Descendants of the Sun" film adaptation have been released, except that it is in its early pre-productions. For the meantime, fans can watch how Gong Yoo and company survive a mysterious virus as they board the "Train to Busan."
