Shailene Woodley speaks up and told reporters that she had no idea that the "Divergent" franchise was being downgraded into a television series. She admitted during her appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con that she was also in the dark about "Ascendant" skipping a theatrical release. What alarmed her was the possibility that her involvement with the franchise could be over.
Woodley appeared at the Comic-Con to promote the upcoming biographical film "Snowden." But when she was asked about the fate of "Ascendant," the actress told E-online that she had no idea about the plans for the "Divergent" franchise. She further said that she found out about the news right after she got off a plane, and it was not a pleasant news to hear. The actress expressed that she needed to discuss with Lionsgate the details of the finale.
Although Lee Toland Krieger is still set to direct "Ascendant," it is unsure if Woodley would retain her role as Beatrice Prior in the TV series. Cinemablend reported that due to the unpromising ratings and poor revenue that "Allegiant" has gained, Lionsgate thought it would be more cost-efficient to conclude the franchise with a smaller budget. There was also news that they were planning to introduce a new set of casts, which apparently surprised Woodley more than her fans.
Meanwhile, Woodley said that it was a good thing thatthe issue about "Ascendant" was brought up to her, or she would probably remain in the dark. The actress said that her future with the franchise was at stake so she had to clear out the mess with Lionsgate before she can give any more statements.
