The long wait for "Winds of Winter" is really proving to be a little too much but good times are on the horizon as author George R.R. Martin's has expressed his determination to finish the book by the end of this year. What is more, he has an interesting twist in mind for one character that he may include in the book.

Martin realizes the significant long delay in the book's release and has now started telling himself that it is time to finish the book, Entertainment Weekly reported. The author reportedly said that he wished the book was out now but perhaps he was being over optimistic about his speed. He has turned down interviews and is doing all that he can to clear his decks and get the job done faster. He also expressed regret at not moving ahead with the sixth installment after finishing "A Dance with Dragons" in the year 2011.

Revealing an interesting detail, Martin said that he has come up with a big twist for a long-time character and it is something that he never considered previously. Teasing further, he said that it is organic and natural and thus will drive readers crazy. It is something that he could see happening but is still not sure if he should go in that direction and therefore, he is still weighing the idea.

A new book of Martin is complete and all set to be released on 30 August, Business Insider reported. The book, which is titled "High Stakes," is the latest installment in "Wild Cards," which is an anthology superhero series. Fans need not lose their cool thinking that he has been devoting time to some other project. The author has merely edited the book and is totally into "Winds of Winter."

It is worth mentioning here that the HBO series "Game of Thrones" has already surpassed Martin's fiction work on which it is based. When the show returns next year, with the seventh season, it will venture into new creative territories that the author has not come up with.
