"W" and "Uncontrollably Fond" are now the two dramas being pitted against each other when it comes to ratings, as the Lee Jong Suk-Han Hyo Joo-lead drama has beaten the show that stars Kim Woo Bin and Suzy Bae.
According to Nielsen Korea, the viewership ratings showed that MBC's "W" has received a 12.9 rating for its third episode. This is a 3.4 jump from the previous episode of "W" that shows ratings have consistently increased since the premiere of the South Korean drama, Soompi reported. The first episode had a viewership rating of 8.6 percent while the second episode had a 9.5 percent viewership rating.
As compared to the KBS 2TV's "Uncontrollably Fond," the show had an 8.6 percent during its seventh episode, which aired during the same time that the third episode of "W" aired. This means Lee's drama topped Kim's.
"Uncontrollably Fond" and "Doctor" were first pitted against each other and were expected to surpass the finale ratings of the hit show "Descendants of the Sun." However, with the arrival of "W," it has become a game changer in the ratings game.
"W" is about this media billionaire and former Olympic gold medalist who exists as a character in a webtoon. The webtoon creator's daughter finds herself drawn into the webtoon in an attempt to save the character of Lee, Yibada reported.
It seems like everyone in the different dramas is not looking at the ratings as s competition. Lee said in a recent statement that despite Kim, his best friend, starring in a different drama that airs on the same days as his drama does, there is no war between them. Han also said in a press conference on July 18 that she would rather focus on doing a good job rather than look at it as a competition over ratings.
"W" and "Uncontrollably Fond" airs every Wednesday and Thursday during the same time slot.
