Chris Evans is currently in line to play a classic horror character in Lionsgates' adaptation of "Jekyll." He is diversifying from his good guy persona and is set to play Tom Jackman, or rather, his sinister persona Mr. Hyde. Aside from his role as Captain America, the actor already expressed his desire to leave acting behind, but it seems the new role made him reconsider his decision.
Lionsgate's "Jekyll" will be a film adaptation of BBC's 2007 mini-series. It is based on the novel titled "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson. Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry are writing the script based on the series. Evans will be playing the role that was once played by James Nesbitt in the mini-series. His character, Jackman, is a descendant of Dr. Jekyll who begins to develop a split personality in the form of Mr. Hyde.
Evans previously expressed in 2014 that he wanted to leave acting behind, and shift to the director's chair. He shared during an interview with Variety that he would take a break after his run with Marvel ends. However, given the news that he will take on the lead role in "Jekyll," the actor must have reconsidered his decision.
Meanwhile, Deadline reported that the Robert Louis Stevenson inspired project will not be part of the Universal Monsters Multiverse, in which Russel Crowe was tapped to a play role that sounds like Dr. Jekyll in "The Mummy." Crowe's project is totally different from this one. He will be having his own standalone film as the original Jekyll/Hyde duo and will appear in several other monster films.
