Fans of the cult hit "Pirates of the Caribbean" are reportedly in a furor and are demanding that Johnny Depp be returned to the leading role of the latest installment to the film. Disney is reportedly looking into making it happen.
It can be recalled that there were news reports that the production giant Disney has tasked Orlando Bloom to take on the lead role and will be the focal character in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" movie. There were also rumors that the story will not be a sequel but will instead be a reboot, focusing on Bloom's character Will Turner and his relationship with his son.
Disney has reportedly backpedaled on this decision and is looking into once again focusing the story on iconic character Jack Sparrow, according to Ecumenical News.
According to Movie News Guide (MNG), the decision was spurred by the demands of fans, who felt that Depp is irreplaceable as the lead character of the film, and that they are not ready to see Bloom take the lead. A lot of fans also believed that Depp's portrayal of the character Jack Sparrow was the reason for the movie's success, and that Bloom has not yet proven his box-office performance.
The success of "Pirates of the Caribbean" can no doubt be credited to Depp's magnificent performance as Jack Sparrow and the movie is undoubtedly a box-office hit. However, some believe that Depp's box-office performance is also questionable of late, pointing to the performance of "The Lone Ranger," which only grossed a modest $260.5 million worldwide based on the records of Box Office Mojo. Disney reportedly was likewise wary of giving the lead role to Depp due to the controversies in his private life, but these issues seem not to matter to his fans.
The producers of the movie have yet to confirm the decision but if the reports are true, then fans have not yet seen the last of Captain Jack Sparrow.
