Broadway star Leah Salonga defends Jessy Mendiola as negative comments about the actress continue to circulate in social media. Mendiola has been a victim of criticism and online bashing, and the attacks only propagated after she gave a remark during FHM's 100 Sexiest Woman Victory Party.
Mendiola's critics further criticized the actress after a video of her acceptance speech went viral in social media. According to GMA News Online, the audience did not take it well when she joked that she won over Ms. Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. The nasty comments prompted Wurtzbach to issue a statement defending the actress. Salonga also came to her rescue after memes shaming the actress of her body circulated online.
Salonga posted a Facebook status stating that being sexy had nothing to do with how one looks, but what is inside. She further stated that sexy, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder and differences in opinion do not invalidate that. She considers Mendiola one of the sexiest person she knows and not just because of her physical appearance.
Despite Mendiola's bashers, she also has a lot of people that continue to support her. The actress thanked Wurtzbach for defending her, and one supported posted a tweet thanking Salonga for having the actress' back.
Meanwhile, according to Rappler, Mendiola has read some of the comments about her online. She said that everyone has the right to their opinion but people have to be responsible about what they post online. She further said that she has always been a victim of body shaming, but it will not stop her from being confident with herself.
