Sony has confirmed the reboot of "Jumanji" which will be directed by Jake Kasdan, son of "Star Wars" writer Lawrence Kasdan. Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson has been casted to play for the main roles, with Jack Black and Nick Jonas. Hart shares that the new film was to honor the late Robin Williams.
Hart was aware that the original 1995 "Jumanji" which starred the late Robin Williams was something incomparable and untouchable to the public's eyes. He shared through Entertainment Weekly that they were not trying to recreate the film but rather modernize it. The aim of the reboot was to introduce it to the current generation and not to destroy any element from the original. He also added that he was excited to be working with Johnson again and since they have developed a great friendship off screen, their team up was a no-brainer.
According to Cinema Blend, "Jumanji" has nothing to really improve on. Given that the story is about a magical board game, the creators think that there can be a lot of new material for the franchise. It also needs something unique to cater to a new generation of audience. Though Sony has not revealed about the plot, they have hinted a comedic delivery and a lot of buddy humor.
Meanwhile, Jonas is levelling up his acting career and will be joining the cast of the new "Jumanji." He is reported to play Alex in the film though not much details about his character has been revealed. The reboot is slated to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
