Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was taken to the hospital on Saturday for the emergency treatment of his wrist wounds. He was returned to jail the same day after the doctors attended to his injuries.
The amputated runner was brought to Kalafong Hospital for the immediate treatment of his injuries. He denied cutting his wrists for an attempted suicide, although razor blades were found in his prison cell. Pistorius claimed he had just fallen out of bed, MailOnline reported.
According to some jail contacts, Pistorius informed his supervisor that he slipped on a leaking toilet water, the reason he lost his balance. Hence, the bad fall cuts his wrists as the track star claimed.
"He claims he slipped in some leaked water, lost his balance and fell against a drawer, cutting his lower forearm, and also hit his head."
The source added, ''His injuries were inspected by a nurse on the hospital wing and it was decided that he should go to the hospital and be checked out. The worry was mainly for the impact to his head.''
A report from South Africa's City Press newspaper stated that Pistorius suffered serious cuts on his wrists. Doctors wrap layers of bandages around it while a hospital spokesman verified that "contraband" was discovered in the runner's cell.
The amputated sprint runner, whose name was Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius, was born with no fibula in both legs. His legs were amputated when he was just 11 months old. He was considered as the first runner to race at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He competed in the sprint events for athletes amputated below the knees as well as for the non-disabled.
Pistorius was convicted of murder after fatally shooting his girlfriend and is currently serving six years in prison. He is persistent in claiming that he did not kill Reeva Steenkamp and it was just a mistake. The non-disabled athlete mistook her for an intruder that's why he shot Steenkamp, as reported by MSN.
Four shots that permeated the locked toilet door hit Steenkamp. She died of gunshot wounds in the arm, head, and hip. Pistorius claimed that he didn't know it was his girlfriend inside the toilet until he forcefully opened the door.
On July 6, the Paralympian was served a sentence and can be paroled after three years. South African lawyers stated they will petition Pistorius' six years in jail saying that it's merciful and tolerant since the minimum sentence for the grievous offense in South Africa is 15 years.
