Netflix's surprise hit "Stranger Things" is being set up for a Season 2 renewal according to the streaming site's boss.

Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings said that "Stranger Things" Season 2 is a no-brainer and that it would have been "dumb not to" renew the show, The Guardian reported.

The thriller starring Winona Ryder has gained quite a following since its release. The show had been a popular subject online and more people are clamoring for future episodes. Unlike conventional networks for conventional tv platforms, Netflix does not release data regarding its viewership.

"Because we don't have advertising we are under a whole different model to not compare all the shows and rank other shows, because it kind of doesn't matter what everybody loves the most it, matters what you or I love most," Hastings explained.

Hastings welcomed the positive feedback from critics despite having a young cast of relatively unknown actors for said series. Hastings pointed out "Stranger Things" ratings on IMDB as evidence of success.

"You can get approximations ... if you look on IMDB the most popular TV show right now it's Stranger Things, so that's a reasonable proxy. It's not that there's no data, just that we don't give out our data," he said.

A look at the worldwide trends in arts and entertainment over the past 30 tells a huge story. "Stranger Things" is actually the second-most-popular search topic and the most-popular search query in that category, Vulture reported.

Meanwhile, showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer said that though the show have not been officially renewed, they already have a plan for Season 2. They plan to bring its characters in a darker path while maintaining the similar format and number of instalments.

"We want it to feel a little bit different, maybe a little bit darker, but still have the sense of fun," Matt said.

"Stranger Things" is an American science fiction horror web television series. The show follows the search for a 12-year old boy who mysteriously vanished and a psychokinetic girl who knows his whereabouts.
