"The Flash" Season 3 will introduce Caitlin Snow's mother this fall. "The Vampire Diaries" alum Susan Walters has been tapped to play the said role in the upcoming season.
Walters, whose recent credits also include "Teen Wolf" and "Star-Crossed," will play Dr. Carla Tannhauser who is a world class biomedical engineer, Entertainment Weekly has learned. She is also a CEO of a major research company. On "The Flash" Season 3, viewers will learn about her complicated and difficult relationship with Caitlin.
Caitlin and her mother don't actually go along very well, as the former finds her mother cold while the latter thinks of her daughter as rebellious. While the casting report did not mention if Walters' Dr. Tannhauser will first appear on "The Flash" Season 3 premiere, her arrival on Central City is definitely going to beef-up the overall storyline of Caitlin.
In June, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg first dropped the hint about introducing Caitlin's mother on "The Flash" Season 3. In another report from Entertainment Weekly, Kreisberg acknowledged that fans haven't met Caitlin's mother yet and shared that his team had a discussion which focused on the mother-and-daughter dynamic.
"We got a little talk between the two women, which is something that will probably play out in season 3," the showrunner told the publication.
Walters join previously cast Tom Felton (Harry Potter) on "The Flash" Season 3. Felton has been tapped to play a fellow CSI at the Central City Police department named Julian Dorn. The duo will join series regular members Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker and Carlos Valdez when new episodes start rolling out this fall.
"The Flash" Season 3 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8PM on the CW.
