Tokyo, the home of anime, is becoming more popular with its rising numbers of anime productions that interest audiences from all over the world. Since "Astro Boy" in 1963, Japan has produced myriads of anime that caught the world's attention.
One of the mainstreamers of anime in Japan is Animax, an anime dedicated network, which was launched in 2004. As reported in THE STRAITS TIMES, it is one of the top general entertainment channels in Southeast Asia airing in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan.
TV Tokyo which started in the 1950's is the foremost network who brought the world of anime to the limelight and is still airing anime until today. Some Japanese anime had already made it to the silver screen such as "One Piece", "Dragon Ball" and the latest hit, "Attack on Titan."
JAPANTODAY reported that the popular Internet Movies Database (IMDb) released a list of the top 250 TV series of all-time, based on user reviews and it turned out that 28 Japanese anime series were included in the list. Japanese anime comprised eleven percent of the 250 television series which went against every large-scale TV productions all over the world.
The three most popular Japanese anime on the list are: "Death Note," "Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood," and "Cowboy Bebop." Until today, there are still ongoing anime series from the 90's such as "Detective Conan" which started in 1996 and "One Piece" which started in 1999.
Later this December Animax will air two new anime series, "Fafner Exodus" and "K: Return of the Kings" which will also be available in high definition (HD).
Another factor that promotes Japanese anime is the Manga, a Japanese version of comics, which is available online.
