Paul Pogba is officially back as a Manchester United player after the English Premier League club completed his world record £89 million signing from Italian Serie A champions Juventus on Tuesday.

The move broke the previous transfer record of £86 million set by Real Madrid when they bought Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

Yahoo Sports reported that United signed the 23-year-old French midfielder to a five-year contract with the salary undisclosed. The £89 million transfer fee also did not include the agent's fee that Mino Raiola is set to receive for the completion of the deal.

"I am delighted to rejoin United. It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with José Mourinho," Pogba said, as per the Independent. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Juventus and have some fantastic memories of a great club with players that I count as friends. But I feel the time is right to go back to Old Trafford."

"I always enjoyed playing in front of the fans and can't wait to make my contribution to the team. This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to in the game," he added.

Pogba had spent the last four seasons with Juventus, which all ended up in championships for the Turin residents, playing in a total of 178 games in all competitions and scoring 34 goals in the process.

However, it was in Manchester with the Red Devils where his senior career began in 2011 as he also came from the club's youth academy. It was a tumultuous start professionally for Pogba as he was not given enough first-team time by then manager Sir Alex Ferguson, which eventually led to him joining Juve on a free transfer in the summer of 2012.

The move became controversial as Ferguson remarked that Pogba did not show "any respect at all" and that he is "quite happy that if they (footballers) carry on that way, they're probably better doing it away from us".

Meanwhile, current United boss Mourinho is ecstatic about having Pogba.

"Paul is one of the best players in the world and will be a key part of the United team I want to build here for the future," the Special One said. "He is quick, strong, scores goals and reads the game better than many players much older than he is."

"At 23, he has the chance to make that position his own here over many years. He is young and will continue to improve; he has the chance to be at the heart of this club for the next decade and beyond," Mourinho added.
